Never heard this one. Glad Rcsaltnnails requested it. It's a fine one. I'll have to learn it. Wonder if Jimmie wrote it. It sounds like it's real old using the old "Lord Randall" line. I'll see what I can find on the net about it.
Jimmie Driftwood was contemparay with Vance Randolph, Randolph was a Folklore Collector of the Ozarks, and made field interviews with the still country folks, arkansas & missouri.
While he was in a nursing home over to Eurika Springs my Granny tookin me to meet him.
I was blessed to see Jimmy Driftwood at the Memorial Union in Madison, WI sometime in the early '70s. He brought two bus loads of "neighbors" with him and them put on a terrific presentation of Ozark Americana! He sang his hits, while his colleagues demonstrated clogging (dancing), acpella spirituals, and verse. They displayed quilts, preserves and other hand make items. I'll never forget his invitation that went something like this '....so come on down and visit me anytime. I live just west of town on Route 155. Look for the mailbox on the left. If we're not home just get the key from under the mat at the back door and let yourself in. We'll be back soon and glad you came." I sure wish I had taken him up on that offer.
I was talking to Doc Watson in 2007, and learned that he and Jimmy were goog friends. Doc was not aware of the Americania CD,s so I sent him my set. He later told me that he and Rosalee spent many hours listening . I am thankful Jimmy came up in our conversation
