They asked me how I knew
My true love was true
Oh, I of course replied
Something here inside cannot be denied
They said someday you’ll find
All who love are blind
Oh, when your heart’s on fire
You must realize
Smoke gets in your eyes
So I chaffed them and I gaily laughed
To think they could doubt my love
Yet today my love has flown away
I am without my love
Now laughing friends deride
Tears I cannot hide
Oh, so I smile and say
When a lovely flame dies
Smoke gets in your eyes
Smoke gets in your eyes
I'm so happy you liked it, Heather! I love both of those movies! Thank you so much for your comments, they have brightened my day! A very wet and rainy day. Think Spring!

LOVE it, Jim!! I've always loved this song, and believe it or not I just watched Lovely to Look At, the remake of Roberta...Ms. Southern's version of this is beautiful, as are your fabulous clips and photo of gorgeous Irene Dunne. Thanks so much for sharing! You brightened a *snowy* day :)
The lady had impeccable taste in selecting tunes to perform and gave each song her own tasteful treatment to A point her renditions were definitive .Few artists could top her treatment of a tune. One favorite of mine is Dancing on the Ceiling a comparative obscure tune that she has a beautiful way of singing this forlorn lament.
