This song was produced by Lou Adler. The SAME Lou Adler who later went to Hollywood and produced "Monterey Pop", "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "Up in Smoke".
Shows why music was so dead then. rock and roll was suffering. you can hear later jan/dean in this song but still a irritating sax and singing and Well its forgotten.Sounds like baby talk eh.
Similar to "Bucket T", a later car song they cut during their "surfing" years and even later a big hit for Ronnie and the Daytonas.
i bought the double vinyl album by jan and dean called the anthology around 1971. I wore out this album just loved it. The story goes that Jan sneaked in to watch a stripper show and her name was jennie lee. When she started dancing her breast would bounce up and down and the guys would chant bomp, bomp, bomp lol..... God bless jennie lee and jan berry
Great song, fun, upbeat, youthful, and what rock and roll was all about in the spirit of Tutti Fruitti (Little Richard) and Hound Dog by Elvis. Success of this song was driven by the great R and B line up of musicians that kicked it off into that high gear shuffle beat... great for some fast footwork. Love those hairstyles especially the "Detroiter" DA on Jan . Got a DA myself and grew up in Chicago during this time period and hated to see the British invasion wipe out this music.
Fun fact: This song is regarded as one of the earliest examples of what would later be known as the "California sound", often associated with things like surfing and hot rods. I remember hearing Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys once credit Jan & Dean/Jan & Arnie as his main inspiration.
