Actually the tune is "Moody's Mood for Love", a contrafact of "I'm In The Mood for love". A solo improvised by Moody in 1949 at the end of a recording session . (With a borrowed alto!. He was playing mainly tenor at that time). Eddie Jefferson put lyrics to that solo, and after that King Pleasure had a hit with it...Then James had to re-learn his own improvisation and the lyrics. Really funny how He recalls the story in an interview
Wicked sense of humor. Performing for the audience, imagine that!!! I was born in the wrong age. I could listen to this, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, all day and night. Real musicians, real emotion, real MUSIC!!!
Rest in peace Mr. Moody
