Blue Mitchell...unsung, unappreciated, unnoticed. His hard bop stylings rivaled by only one other hard driving, party starting, high flame register cooker...the late Mr. Lee Morgan. That Blue Note funk was boiling full blast in the late 50s. Thank God, that the best from Lee, Blue, and Horace was yet to come. Sixty years later, and we're still grooving to it. Rest in Peace. Well done thou good and faithful servants of the music God must have called His own.

Old school as my old man use to say, always with a good rhythm section makes all the difference; Horace works it!

Horace kept a signature sound deeply rooted in gospel, blues and soul. He did venture into more cerebral, introspective realms. But his vibe was ultimately low down and funky as one hears in Sister Sadie

I have heard many, many bands/groups/ pick-up groups since I was 9 years old in 1953, and NOBODY has EVER 'SHOOK and FINGERPOPPED as Horace does and did! The world lossed a funk-master when Horace advanced to the "The Big CocertHall -In The Sky.." GodBless Horace, and may he funk away -in peace !!"
