This Bacharach composition is a challenge for the best of singers and Helen answers it beautifully. Her vocals have a warm luxuriant quality that is quite unique and easily delivers the occasional shiver of delight. Both versions are remarkable and no one could ever diminish Dionne's superb rendition.
Yeah, we all know Dionne's version -- Helen's delivery here, at least to me, is more adult resignation and less angst-ridden lament than Dionne's. Maybe because I'm ancient with my own regretful resignations...but I think I like this one better - they're two great performances of one great song.
