I waited each day for your letter although I knew what it would cost
But dear when it came I knew that your game
Had been won and I knew that I had lost
But I just couldn’t open your letter I know you’re no longer my own
The moment it came I wrote beneath my name
These heart-breaking words address unknown
I wanted to open your letter to see if you missed me sometimes
But you have a way of making me pay
Cause I know what you write between the lines
You know I’d be so glad to see you in spite of the hurt you have done
But deep down inside I can’t lose my pride
And forgive you just because you are the one
So I just couldn’t open your letter…
Interesting that a later rendition of this song is found on Hank's 1961 album Big Country Hits (Songs I Hadn't Recorded Until Now). Perhaps the title of this album should have been Big Country Hits (Songs I Hadn't Recorded Until Now Except For One of Them).
The gramophone is a H.M.V 163 I have had it many years,I love the sound it gives out when played,
Has you probaly know it has a re-entrant horn inside,
Please excuse quality of video, This is a practice one to find out how to do it .I now know so I hope I will improve in the future,
Thanks for watching, Lillymoons.
Hank Snow had an extensive array of songs that he sang on things like the Armed Forces Show as well as as others. These songs were transcribed and he never made it to the studio to record them. He also had his own show, The Rainbow Ranch Show; perhaps some of the transcriptions were from these shows as well. I remember a few years back, Bear Family Records out of Germany had several boxed sets of those transcribed Hank Snow Songs. Thanks for posting this song later recorded by Marty Robbins.
