Astounding that this is from 1958. Sounds like it was recorded very recently. Now I have an even greater appreciation for "the good old days."

Deep soul, razor-sharp time - this is a classic. The group, the entire album "For Real", magically captures a moment in time, pure inspiration. Hamp climbed the pulpit for this one, the son of a preacher man.

what a lovely rendition of this great standard. Hamp was the best as were Harold and Scott.

As Hampton Hawes himself puts it in his must- read autobiography "Rise Up Off Me", you can stop listening to some good piece of music for a while, or even for a long time, but once you have listened to that particular piece of good music once, you always come back at some point or another to listen to it again, because as he says, there are only two types of music, good and bad music. For him the key to make good music is to play it with honesty and from your soul, that´s what makes good music. He made this remark out of humbleness when answering a question on what was the secret to produce such beautiful notes.
