Come away little lass come away to the water
To the arms that are waiting only for you
Come away little lass come away to the water
To the ones appointed to see it through
We are calling to you
Come away little light come away to the laughter
Show yourself so we might live
Come away little light come away to the laughter
To the ones appointed to see it through
We are coming for you
We are coming for you
Come away little lamb come away to the water
Give yourself so we might live anew
Come away little lamb come away to the slaughter
To the ones appointed to see it through
We are coming for you
We are coming for you
Heard this on Pandora, and it said Maroon 5, and right away I knew something was terribly wrong. When I found out Glen was the original artist, it made much more sense. This is definitely his song.
This is so beautiful! I heard Glen singing this live in late 2011 and immediately loved it. The problem with live recordings though is that quite a lot of the subtilties of the song are lost. The next time I heard this song it was sung by Maroon 5 and I really do love that version too; it's one of my favourite songs on the soundtrack. I'd never heard Glen singing it in a studio though and I have to say this is breathtakingly beautiful. Both versions bring such different meanings to the song!
Glen always tells the story of how this song came about before he performs it live. He was thrilled to learn his song had been selected to be on the soundtrack of the Hunger Games BUT they wanted Maroon 5 to perform it! And then it turns out that no-one in Maroon 5 can play mandolin, so Glen was flown out to become a member of Maroon 5! As you can imagine, the large majority of Glen's fans are not Maroon 5 fans, so this story provides a great laugh for the audience.
The Maroon 5 version is fine. I like Glen's better however, because he is the writer of the song. Also all his music comes deep from the heart and soul.
So... I'm a little ashamed to say that the Maroon 5 cover brought me here. I was like: "ZOMFG! Why is this SO much better than anything else they've ever come out with?" Now I know.
I knew the was a reason I loved the song.. Now finally hearing this original version.. It all makes sense.. Glen Hansards voice is perfect for this eeriness...
