I can't tell if I like the original more or this arrangement more. They both have unique strengths. I think Winston made a bold but good move to remove the middle section. The main melody is what's so haunting about the piece.
Thanks for posting it. Years ago I gave one listen to this song at Barnes and Noble and walked out with the CD. I prefer the Winston over the Bolcom version but I love it that Bolcom wrote it for his dad. It makes me think of mine as well. May they and your grandma know Eternal Bliss.
It's probably the 'heavy-handed' playing style (and the reverb), but this cover also has a strange sense of power and strength. It brings an interesting dimension to this melancholy rag-time piece.
i bought this album just because the cover but it wasn't i expected when i listen all composition... the i gave this album to friend who deserve better because she loves it.
