There’s a cat prowling through the streets at night
And she’s black and her eyes are burning yellow
Fierce and bright
The lights are darkened;
Senses sharpened;
Wide awake
As she acts out her past of Jungle days
When the night was her friend in many other
Different ways
It gave protection
Of detection
By her prey
With a sway and swing she walks away
And the look in her eye it never ever seems
To say
The way she’s feeling
No revealing
Black Cat Ways
I have been told about GG a year ago on a Rock forum , so I got three of their albums : 1- Acquiring The Taste 2- Three Friends 3- Octopus . The result was "I was amazed by the amount of talent and crazyness these Medevil , Arty Rockers had/have . I would love to some of the 90s or 00s bands try to pull stuff like these Mozart like masterpieces . BTW , Ray Shulman is from another planet !!!!!!
I know the LP through and through.
I'd say it's very interesting from start to finish.
Better even than most of their later albums like In A Glass House or The Power and the Glory. Only Octopus or Free Hand come close in my opinion.
I'm another female who likes Prog Rock. Of Gentle Giant's music, I like Pantagruel's Nativity and On Reflection. Black cat is cool too as I have one :-) .
Phil had alot to do with the bands sound when he was a member. Being born i 1937, he was from a different time, it shows musically. His music is very retro like. Like hearing 50's and early 60's movie soundtracks, if you know what I mean.
Reading the quote down below about Gentle Giant expanding the boundaries of popular music at the risk of becoming very unpopular. Well...they were correct on both counts. Gentle Giant is simply an amazing band that wrote challenging music and featured some incredible musicianship. I "discovered" them many years ago, and yes, I treated it as though it were my own dirty little secret. :-)
