Today I found a very old letter my mother wrote to me when I was a young teen in the mid 70’s. She tells of a beautiful song she played on the piano as a girl - (she was born in 1917) She wrote in the letter the lyrics she could recall and told me she would sing it for me one day. She also asked - didn’t I agree that the name Ramona was a lovely one? I do, and always have - but now I remember why :)
When I was a teenager I got all my grandparents old records. three albums. This was one of my favorites. I learned accordian music using all these old records. My ex broke a bunch of the records and sadly, Ramona was one of them.
I love this sweet song, I called my Aunt Ramona when she was dying from bone cancer and she loved it.I love you and miss you Aunt Ramona, you are always in my ❤️
Later at my Billy Murray fan channel I will post the great version of Ramona recorded in Norwegian by Jens -Book Jenssen. Book-Jenssen was a very popular singer her in Norway. He was the most solded solo artist of the 20th century her in Norway
We had the original 78 rpm record by Gene Austin and I remember listening to it on our Silvertone (Sears Roebuck) 4 legged phonograph (we called it a Victrola) when I was a kid. I especially like the instrumental part in the middle of the record. I was a really stupid kid and I sailed those old 78 rpm records like frisbies from our 2nd story apartment house front porch over Live Oak St. in Dallas, Tx. The address was 2600 Live Oak and is now the address of the Latino Cultural Center. I so wish I had not destroyed those records. I am now 84 years old and I hope, wiser!
I have now postet Ramona by Jens Book-Jenssen on my Billy Murray fan channel. I love Ramona with Gene Austin, but Jens Book-Jenssen recorded my favorite version. He recorded it in Norwegian ( he never recorded songs in english, but he recorded some songs in swedish)
