I have loved this piece ever since I first heard it. What I envision is two lovers meeting on a stretch of beach, running toward each other, and embracing in a loving kiss toward the end. Have always had that vision from this music.

I discovered music on the radio at age 12, and fell in love with this (in those days, 1953, stuff like this was on the hit parade) The only radio in our home was in my father's '47 Lincoln Zephyr, and he let me go out there and listen for hours - what a guy.

Wow... this song goes back. Best as an instrumental, imo, with all respect to the Righteous Brothers

This morning I heard Chacksfield's orchestra performing "The Man that Got Away" on my Johnny Mandel station (Pandora Radio) and it completely floored me. I wish I had discovered his recordings earlier.

Bought this record for myself on my 21st. birthday - September 13 1954. It was then and still is one of my all-time favourites.

That's the favorite melody of my father. I remember when he´s earning again and again.

I have loved and searched for this version for years, finally I found it . You Tube is great. By the way I am 72 in my youth had a house on the beach, so this was my everyday song.

I am also 61 female who always loved music like this..when I was 16 I loved "Ferrante &Tiecher" The Apartment" ..I was and will always be deep soul an old soul A Pisces.. looking for Music for A lazy Afternoon" listen to "Deodato" Love Island he also does Afternoon of The Fawn" I love the composure of this man Frank'Chacksfield..
