A long time ago, I was just another dirty boy when I ordered a free compilation album from Virgin Record Japan, which contains this song along with "Coming up to People and Tickling" by Hatfield & The North, "Teanbeat" by Henry Cow, "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield, "I'm a Believer" by Robert Wyatt and so on. All of these are my lifetime favorites and it was really a miraculous encounter for a teenage boy like me. The first time I heard this song, I found it a little boring as the song went for a couple of minutes but the moment a rattling sound of bamboos or something, shivers went up and down my spine leaving me frozen without a single word. After a while, "How can it be a song?" was all that I could utter. Automatically, should I say, I told myself that anything can be buried in a song. And I believe it quite natural that I came to listen to Stockhausen, John Cage, Terry LIrey and so on. I thank all the members of Faust for letting me get out of the boundaries of music genres and out of "should-be" kinds of mediocre boring pieces of music. After all these 45 years or so, I still love this song and am waiting to encounter more of this sort. Let your children hear this piece of music and pray for the once in a lifetime experience of theirs.
