How good is Ellen McIlwaine? Good enough for The Hendrix to have played with her, that's how good. Quote from her bio: "In 1966, McIlwaine had a stint in New York City's Greenwich Village where she opened every night at the Cafe Au Go Go, playing with Jimi Hendrix, and opening for Muddy Waters, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, and Big Joe Williams.". But having been associated with all those big names isn't the reason why I am a fan. Her music is.
What?????1!?!/ No Thumbs Down here?!?? Oh, yeah, I think this version of this song amputates down-pointing thumbs!! Or maybe it's like a divining rod that only goes one way -- UP
Hard to believe that searching for Psyche/blues/metal from the late sixties brought me to Ellen! Try a listen to 'Fear Itself' from 1968, which contains some of her best blues harp playing. Why do these artists need to exist 'underground'? Because US radio SUCKS, that's why!
Thanks for posting!!...Just happened upon this video while listening to some of Ellen's other music I had from yester-year. Had never heard this and it is excellent!!! Her style, voice/vocals and musicianship, are so unique and unparalleled!!!
