From the album Eddie Jefferson - Body and Soul. Recorded September 27, 1968 in New York, NY. Released on Prestige in 1969 as PRLP7619. With Dave Burns: Trumpet, James Moody: Tenor Sax, Barry Harris: Piano, Steve Davis: Bass, and Billy English: Drums
Eddie was in a class by himself among others unique singers. Trying to describe how he sounded I decided upon toasted marshmallows. Sweet, smooth with a crusty edge .
So crazy how my dad wrote this song and used to get so excited whenever it came on, and I slept on it (kids never appreciating their parent's music) until after he passed. Man, I wished we could've jammed to this in the blue note, but I have that memory of him doing his artwork in the kitchen, turning up the jazz station and tapping his feet to Eddie singing his lyrics. THAT, I will never forget. Eddie's voice lifts your spirit, Miles' tune is amazing, and the complete collaboration: CLASSIC.
Interesting. First time I have heard Eddy. I did a concert back in the 90s. I wrote out all five tunes and sang Miles solos. It took me a year to learn all the parts. I must say i think my lyrics are more what Miles said with his trumpet. The Dave Bradish sextette only did 2 concerts in Stockholm. Sony threatened to sue me. The 5 tunes are on the net on Soundcloud. Check them out and compare
