Anything that he found around the place
He took a limb from a tree and made a whistle
And this is the melody he played
Jimmy took an old beat up wash tub
And a pitchfork that he used for pitching hay
He tied 'em both together with a clothesline
You ought to heard old Jimmy play the bass
Some people say he took an old cigar box
And a wire from a screen door that was torn
Everybody thought old Jim was crazy
But that’s how the guitar was born
And he played…
The day they took old Jimmy to the graveyard
Everybody came from miles around
A little band was playing Jimmy’s music
As they laid him in the cold, cold ground
And they played…
for the period of time i was with dorsey as his friend and buddy to all the concerts. I never heard this song...he did cut alot of what were to be released at a later date postamasly or when the time was right...as for the flute, it must have been before my time with him.
Not the greatest Dorsey effort - I agree with ffairlane57 the flute is like a nun in a brothel - shouldn't be there. I think this is a track that should never have been released. It's experimental and flawed. I thought it was "'My Name is Jimmy Brown sir..." the Flatt and Scruggs classic. Anyhows, the Burnettes remain in my box of musical treasures.
Interesting upload tho' and please don't take my comment as a pejorative on your effort.
