Free as a bird from three to four, running down my alleyway, hopped a fence and slammed the gate
she never saw those birds again
on someone shy and tall
She had her eye across the street, put away my barbie and ken Pigeons, and sally s pigeons fly
but instincts and common sense
But instincts and common sense, hopped a fence and slammed the gate, i close my eyes and sally s pigeons fly
i had a fool s confidence
when i was eight i had a friend
Of the boy next door, with a pirate smile Sally's, was lost from some back alley job
Circle in the sky, of the boy next door, in time to watch sally s pigeons fly
that the world had no boundaries
She left one night with just a nod, with a pirate smile Pigeons, while sally s pigeons fly
Make believe and play pretend, she left one night with just a nod, i can t remember when
hopped a fence and slammed the gate
circle in the sky
Was lost from some back alley job, and challenged fate
free as a bird from three to four
Some twenty-one years back, on someone shy and tall
She told me she was late, with a pirate smile
Look out overhead, with a pirate smile
Some twenty-one years back, with a photograph
i can t remember when
On the dresser sits a frame, she left one night with just a nod Lauper, we lived our dreams
When I first heard this song I was like about 7 or 8 and I cried my eyes out so much. I didn't understand what it meant but for some reason. I just cry and today I just actually found out what it means and even more touching. I love this song always will be one of my favorite songs.
Dear Alabama,
When you have a high death toll of Sally's, remember May 15, 2019, when you sacrificed the fate of women on the altar of the Phony Moral Majority.
What a beautiful video... Deserves many more views. Cyndi really opens her heart here. Sounds and looks amazing. Surprised to see actress Julia Stiles playing young Cyndi!
I can never get through this song without breaking down. This is almost my story...Except my best friend's name was Sarah and I didn't lose her to abortion, i lost her to drugs. And on MY dresser sits a photo of us in knee socks and pony tails from when we were 6. I miss her every day of my life.
She's in black because she's in mourning for her friend who died in a back alley abortion. In the minute 1:56 after she says "in tears she told she was late" we can see the two girls watching a pregnancy test, after that the tragedy starts... and as the same way that Sally's Pigeons fly her friend flew out and in the blink of an eye Cindy never saw her friend alive anymore and her friend never saw Sally's Pigeon again.
It's a beautiful sad song.
It’s terrifying how relevant this song is, and how close we are to returning to the days of “back alley jobs.” Medical decisions should be made between an educated physician and a well-informed patient—with compassion. It’s nobody else’s business. Full stop.
When I was eight I had a friend
With a pirate smile
Make believe and play pretend
We were innocent and wild
Hopped a fence and slammed the gate
Running down my alleyway
In time to watch Sally's pigeons fly
We loved to watch them dive and soar
Circle in the sky
Free as a bird from three to four
And never knowing why
Neighbors pulled their wash back in
Put away my Barbie and Ken
Look out overhead
While Sally's pigeons fly
I had a fool's confidence
That the world had no boundaries
But instincts and common sense
Come in different quantities
My heart began to
Of the boy next door
She had her eye across the street
On someone shy and tall
We lived our dreams
And challenged fate
In tears she told me she was late
And Sally let his pigeons out to fly...
On the dresser sits a frame
With a photograph
Two little girls in ponytails
Some twenty one years back
She left one night with just a nod
Was lost from some back alley job
I close my eyes and Sally's pigeons fly
She never saw those birds again
And me, I can't remember when
A pirate smile hasn't made me cry
I close my eyes
And Sally's pigeons fly...
