After many years of listening to Basie (since 1958), I realised those chords and single note punctuations were a way to conduct the orchestra.

One of Frank Foster's gems: the definitive arrangement personifying the vocabulary of Ellington, Basie, and the post 1940's jazz orchestra,especially in the soli and the shout. You can't hear all of the harmonies in this recording, so those interested should check out the several other audio recordings. Thank you Frank. Keep swingin'.

What a gas to be able to sit down and play rhythm guitar background for this fantastic song while sitting in front of my PC! What a shame that many of us never got to play with a super group like these guys, they're the best for sure!
