How come in the description it says this is an alternative take even though they used this on the album? Is it because this was the 2nd take and they decided to use that one?
Such a tremendously talented group of musicians, led by the incomparable Clifford Brown. Both he and best friend, Richie Powell, were taken from the world far too soon. God only knows what glorious music those two could have produced together, had they lived on.
Man, the trade off towards the end is amazing, it's like a conversation but ends up with Land ending the sentences Brown started. It's weird, Harold Land was often referred to as the greatest saxophonist alive in the 50s and yet history has sort of forgotten him when compared to the other giants. Is it because he didn't make any standards? His playing in the 50s is certainly some of the best jazz soloing I've heard, especially with Clifford's band.
