When I was 13 in 1973, me and my poor white trailer trash buddies rode our bicycles from Bell Gardens to Downey and visited the Carpenter's house. I rang the door bell. We met their parents. They were nice sweet old people like grandma and grandpa. I asked if Richard and Karen were home? Can we meet them? The mom said, they were on tour in the Midwest. But, she gave us fan club info and an autographed Xeroxed (copy machine) photo. We were so happy, that we rode our bikes all the way back home, singing, We've Only Just Begun and Close To You. It was a beautiful day and it's been a wonderful memory. JR

Makes me wanna cry when I hear Carpenters, because I remember my dad playing them in the early 70's when I was a kid. Very sad when he told me she passed away. Now my dad's been gone by a few months. RIP dad... you knew your music. I love you
