I’m writing this song all about you
A sad song as real as my tears
There’s no need to fear it for no one will hear it
For sad songs and waltzes ain’t selling this year.
It’s a good thing that I’m not a star
You don’t know how lucky you are
Though my records may say it no one will play it
For sad songs and waltzes ain’t selling this year.
I’ll tell all about how you cheated
I’d like for the whole world to hear
I’d like to get even with you 'cause you’re leavin'
But songs and waltzes ain’t selling this year.
It’s a good thing that I’m not a star
You don’t know how lucky you are
Though my records may say it no one will play it
For sad songs and waltzes ain’t selling this year.
No sad songs and waltzes ain’t selling this year…
I've loved this song for a very long time. What's weird is that I always said it sounded like a willie nelson song, but i never knew it was a cover. Live n learn
"It's a good thing that I'm not a star" My God Willie Nelson, that is incredibly funny. This song showcases Willie at his best. Cake is smart enough to appreciate it, and do a fantastic cover.
I'm gonna have to disagree. The use of the trumpet really, IMO, sets it above the original. I will admit though, Willie Nelson's version is more emotional.
I'm writing a song all about you
A true song as real as my tears
But you've no need to fear it
'Cause no one will hear it
Sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year
I'll tell all about how you cheated
I'd like for the whole world to hear
I'd like to get even
With you 'cause you're leavin'
But sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year
It's a good thing that I'm not a star
You don't know how lucky you are
Though my record may say it
No one will play it
Sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year (alright)
It's a good thing that I'm not a star

Though my record may say it
No one will play it
Sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year (alright)
I absolutely love this version! This is what a cover should sound like. Staying true to the original yet adding layers and twists that make the song even better.... Slightly increased tempo and the superior instrumental backing (especially the horn arrangement) make this a truly great cover.... I'd rather listen to Cake's version any day....
