My puppy's name was Blue and my little sister and I used to call him Baby Blue. We are fans of The Bryds but had never heard this song. We had to give him away a few months ago and just discovered this song. Aww. My Baby Blue..
I dig the 12 string intro and outro using the melody from I don't believe you....genius mix! the vision and talent of this group means alot to me....they truly had the balls. to forge their own path
goodness beauuuuuuutiful love the classic rock and roll masterpiece writing by brother Bob Dylan and covered by many many wonderful artists such as yours truly and beautifully the Byrds God bless you brothers stay strong and courageous
It's always the same happenin' here. When I take the time to listen to other versions of this song (included Dylan's), I definitely go back to this one; the best version by too many far, in my Opinion. Just listen to the solo at 1:41 ;) I don't need any other.
Seriously, this could actually be their best Dylan cover. It's so different - all the others from the early days sound the same (lazy and contemplative, NOT a criticism), while this is sharp and aggressive. We all need a little diversity
Incredibly left off the somewhat tepid TURN! TURN! TURN!.... would've been the best tune on that record outside of the gems by Gene Clark. Might be their best Dylan cover
The Byrds-La's-Oasis, The Byrds-Smiths-Too many to mention! McQuinn will admit his debt to The Beatles (intro-Daytripper) but The Byrds are at the fountainhead of all that's cool. Always believed a great band should look the part too. They looked the biz! Again, indebted to the scouse gods!
“You better go now, take what you want
You think will last
But if there's something you wish to keep
Better grab it fast
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun
Crying like a fire in the sun
Look out for who, the saints are comin' through
And it's all over now, baby blue
The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense
Take what you have gathered from coincidence
The empty-handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets
The sky too is foldin' under you
And it's all over now, baby blue
All your seasick sailors, they are goin' home
Your empty-handed armies, they are goin' home
Your lover who just walked out the door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor
The carpet too is movin' under you
And it's all over now, baby blue
It's all over now, baby blue
It's all over now, baby blue”
