Love this song, love bridie, God rest her soul, but still love An Irish Mothers Loves a Blessing the best, God nite, and Gods Rest in Heaven until we meet, hopefully not for a few earth years, keep singin, Heaven wont be Heaven without a Bridie sing a long !!
My dad came back from the UK in 1972. He thought his Primary 6 students - St George's Primary School, Basse, who sang it at a Concert. Young though I could recall some of the lyrics. A very touching orphan song.
I am 16 and when i was little the songs that i was sung were this and a mother's love's a blessing
it is only recently that realised how heavy they were and a strange choice for a 3 year old
I love these melodramatic songs. They would be laughed at nowadays. They stem from Victorian time. They are a part of our musical culture. Bridie was well suited to perform this type of song.
Bridie is a beautiful singer and you are definitely lucky ... even luckier if you are in a warmer climate than us. Cold and wet here today. "If you feel like singing, do sing an Irish song". Tyrone.
