Have allways loved Elvis singing this, Bobby is great too ,guess he sang it before Elvis i am 60 my mum allways played a single of Bobby frauline / rainbow
Just love the way this cat intones and sustains the end notes . Don't think I've ever heard a bad recording from Bobby Helms . Just about the best country version of this great song .
Ranks right up there
with Jim Reeves more subdued version, both great in
their own way. What a hauntingingly beautiful and sentimental voice Helms had. Usually I miss not having a pedal steel
guitar in a country arrangement, but not
until I listened a second time did I realize the steel was absent, ergo, I really didn't miss it at all!
Hank Snow was the first to record this song in 1954, RCA and Elvis release it in 1958, Elvis recorded it before leaving for Germany, Bobby Helms release it in 1959...little more info. Col. Tom Parker was Hank Snow booking agent in 1954 and 55, he became Elvis manager in 1955 while still Hank booking agent...thanks for the comments and the listen!
This guy did that song "The Jingle Bell Rock" a long time ago. Back when Christmas was special time for many, especially children. Nice to remember ,Hell getting old.
