Still love Capt. Beefheart AND Lydia Lunch's versions :-)  but this one's king

Captain Beefheart made a great version of this song in 1965.

if you can be original like Bo Diddley then you got a new fan.

You fools don't even know who wrote this song and made it famous enough for the "White" boys to sing and capitalize on it. Try finding a recording by Willie Dixon if you really want to feel cool.

Bo Diddley- the crossroads where the Blues and Rock and roll met and created something amazing. Diddy Wah Diddy indeed.

OK, I know there was a lot of, um, "borrowing" in the blues, but how the hell ZZ Top didn't get sued to give Bo Diddley a writing credit on 'Sharp Dressed Man' I do not know.

Khultan - the Remains were a great band! Saw them back in the day in Conn.

I think Ty Segall's the one who nailed it.

For all his success and fame, he remained a somewhat underestimated artist...

"Diddy Wah Diddy" is off of the first Chess/Checker LP, "Bo Diddley--which was itself a collection of his popular singles up to that point. It was released in 1958--"Go Bo Diddley" was released in July of 1959. (My parents had that LP--I definitely remembered that "Diddy Wah Diddy" wasn't on it.)
