These days every fellow has a sweetheart
Seems that every girlie has a beau
Gee i'd be glad if i only had
Someone to tell me i love you so
I'd like to do some kiss in and some hugging
Some crooning and some spooning too i guess
But no matter how i strive
Folks don't know that i'm alive
And i fear i'm going to die of lonesomeness
Gee, i wish that i had a girl like the other fellows had
Someone to make a fuss over me
To cheer me up when i feel sad
On Sunday night i'm all alone
When i ought to be up at some sweetheart's home
And i'm lonesome, awful lonesome
Gee i wish i had a girl
There are times when i get fairly started
With some girlie who looks good to me
But i can't win 'cause someone butts in
And then it looks like they meant twenty-three
It seems that i just can't get up a system
My sighing and my trying's all in vain
Cruel fate spoils every plan
'Cause i'm not a ladies man
And a lonely creature i'll always remain
Gee, i wish that i had a girl like the other fellows had
Someone to make a fuss over me
To cheer me up when i feel sad
On Sunday night i'm all alone
When i ought to be up at some sweetheart's home
And i'm lonesome, awful lonesome
Gee i wish i had a girl
I thought this was going to be the song; "I Wish I Had A Girl Like The One That Married Good 'Ole Dad." But, it wasn't...I had never heard it until today. Thank You, Judith White, for sharing it in your monthly newsletter... :)
What is particularly disconcerting is that the great Billy Murray's recorded legacy includes literally thousands of tracks. Yet only a small percentage of them remain in print. He was arguably the single most impacting figure in recorded music during the first quarter of the 20th century, and I would contend that distinction could well be applied to his impact over the first half of the century, as well. Genius of the highest order. I would have loved to meet him and/or see him in concert.
I REALLY HATE modern music of the 21th century. It’s horrible noise without meaning. I be very tierd of modern dunk dunk music. I not understand a word of what they sing in hitlists music of to day and I don’t know what the songs are about. I be scared of it. Billy is much easier to understand. On his time he was the singer in the world who sang most clearly of all singers. Thank you Billy.
