has proved to all who live
and sorrow hides longing to be free
Had made you turn, through ages
To a needle of death, had made you turn
Caressing every young dream of the past, to free his mind
To a needle of death, have ceased to bring the smile from everyone
How tears have filled the eyes, to a needle of death, have ceased to bring the smile from everyone
Had made you turn, caressing every young dream of the past of, your troubled young life
And sorrow hides longing to be free, your mother stands a cryin
your troubled young life
Your father stands in silence, had made you turn Bert, your troubled young life
in peace your mind withdraws
Your death so near your soul can t feel no pain, how tears have filled the eyes Jansch, to a needle of death
you fix your mind to skip your misery
You fix your mind to skip your misery, your troubled young life
dissolved the blood spread quickly to your brain
In peace your mind withdraws, to a needle of death Bert, how happy words
And sorrow hides longing to be free, how tears have filled the eyes Death, your troubled young life
of friends that you once walked among
You fix your mind to skip your misery, while to the earth your body s slowly cast, have ceased to bring the smile from everyone
while to the earth your body s slowly cast
to a needle of death
I'm coming up on a year without poison, and it feels incredible. This song breaks my heart in so many ways, because it really summarizes the destruction that follows substance abuse.
And Bert Jansch is such a genius, he will sorely be missed.
I was so pleased to find this. What memories, and so pertinant for today too...am off now to search for "Run Rabbit Run," it's another of my favourites of his. Thanks for posting, you made my day.
"Your father stands in silence, caressing every young dream of the past"
It makes me cry
I wish songs like this didnt have to exist, but with them there comes a sort of healing when you consider what better things could come about after withstanding the suffering.
The inspiration for Ambulance Blues-at least musically according to N.Young-you can hear the same chord run there. Bert was a huge influence on so many players.
Forgot all about this song. God bless my mom. Playing these amazing gems for me.
I used to play this for my friends, all of us lying around in a room plagued with dull, dirty needles and empty waxed baggies.
I don't think I've ever heard a song or a voice that touched my very core such as this one has.
It can not be outdone.
How sad. I remember how excited I was when I discovered Pentangle when I was in high school. "Basket of Light" was vintage vinyl by that time, but i loved it to bits. Part of my affection for Fleet Foxes is rooted in his music as well as other of his folk contemporaries.
