Hi David,
Glad that you're interested in the life of Mr. Galbraith. This is not much of a lead? but I believe his family would probably be the best to speak of a biographical content.
The last i know, (over 20yrs ago) he was living in Vermont.
Perhaps, looking up the Galbraiths in Vermont? Hope that helps a little.
"Guitar and the Wind" was a great album but unfortunately is out of print. You might find a copy of a Japanese CD reissue somewhere on the internet if you're lucky - I found one on Ebay.
What a genius of jazz guitar this gentleman was! It is such a loss to the jazz guitar world that Barry Galbraith didn't record more as a leader or a sideman on jazz dates, where his talent could shine forth. His reharmonzations, embellishments and substitutions are simply wonderful.
Michael Feinstein has recorded it as a vocal, with Dory Previn's lyrics. It's a very difficult song for the human voice to perform, and Feinstein does it beautifully. I give him a lot of credit for taking the challenge!
It's great to hear and see Mr. Galbraith back in the day. As a former student of his, I remember his great concepts, in addition to being a great human being. Imagine...he returned $10.00 to me via mail as he thought I overpaid him. Can't get any more integrity and honesty than that...you can hear it in his playing. Although, he prefers to be called Barry -- We will all miss you Mr. Galbraith.
