Wake up my love beneath a midday sun
Alone once more alone
This traveling boy was only passing through
But he will always think of you
One night of love beside a strange young smile
As warm as I have known
A traveling boy and only passing through
But one who’ll always think of you
Take my place out on the road again
I must do what I must do
Yes I know we were lovers
But a drifter discovers
That a perfect love won’t always last forever
Well I won’t say that I’ll be back again
But time will tell the tale
So no good-byes from one just passing th rough
But one who’ll always think of you
This traveling boy was only passing through
But I will always think of you
Arguably the most sensitive, poetic, gorgeous song ever written about a one-night stand. I'm thinking it might have been a bit different if written from the woman's point of view.
this album got me thru some very tough times in December 1973... months of rehab following a serious car accident and to this day it is still special for the strength it game me .... tears and all... thanks Art Garfunkel for your angelic voice...
My favorite Art Garfunkel song of all time. The vocals and the studio musicians just work perfectly. I always thought Dean Parks played lead guitar on this track but your sure it was Louie Shelton? Doesn't really matter, I just love it.
I remember this from 1973. It didn't get much airplay as Rock and early Disco had preference, but this TRULY is a GREAT Song from VERY Talented Mr Garfunkel !
I first heard this on Memorial Day in 1974. I was cleaning up my room and this came on the radio. I love opening keyboard notes...kinda slow and haunting. Great song but couldn't crack the Hot 100.
Great post! I've always loved this song. It still gives me chills. Artie's in top form on this. And that lineup of studio musicians is impeccable! The underrated Louie Shelton on guitar with The Wrecking Crew! No pitch correction in the studio on this stuff, folks! Just people who knew what they were doing!
