I grew up in the 60's with a father who loved Acker Bilk and Dixieband, he would play it loud and a lot, it really did me and my older brother in, especially as we were listening to the Beatles, Hendrix etc.. But listening to it now, I clearly see what he liked about it, not quite my cup of tea but still very good music nevertheless. And compared to the nonsense that they release today, these guys were real true artists
What I remember were the ATCO record sleeves, listening to Cream and Blind Faith and ELP, and staring at those postage-stamp sized album covers of shaggy rockers and the incongruous Mr. Acker Bilk.
He had over a dozen albums displayed, far more than the rock stars. I wondered who he was. Did he play guitar? No, he seemed to have a clarinet. He had a beard and mustache, but it wasn't scruffy like David Crosby. Very neat, trimmed, maybe waxed? He was a man of mystery to me.
