It's interesting to hear how Herbie reharmonized this one. Take a listen to the 1958 Bill Holman recording from the LP "Jive for Five" (featuring Jimmy Rowles on piano). It's still a very moody, noir jazz piece, but it doesn't have the same open modal vibe. It's more like an Ellington piece. I'd love to see a harmonic analysis of both arrangements.

It's kind of annoying to see how many people online think this is a Shorter composition. It was written by the brilliant pianist Jimmy Rowles, who recorded a number of Shorter tunes himself during his long career. In turn, Shorter loved this particular Rowles tune and played it for years.
