Whatever happened: mature looking men in DJ's singing a song about a dam in the Pacific North West, which was commissioned by the US government to persuade people nationalized electricity was better than the private stuff. We've just realised that again! And those pretty girls tapping and clapping. Now it's manufactured sweaty boys in vests shouting out stuff you can't hear. Ah well, those were the days!
Of course, the Beatles were HUGE fans of Lonnie. If you look at the way Lonnie is moving starting at 1:58 - the wide-legged stance, the bopping, the way he holds the guitar - I swear I see John Lennon.
If you see this film you may notice the young lady at 0.20 .. her hair style changes ..She pops up in other Pop films of the time . no idea who she is though.
Whether Lonnie was miming on this as you do in films to a pre-recorded version i don't know, but I know for sure he isn't miming to the original record which I must have played 100 times on my record player in those days....The original record was done at a slower pace than here and his voice was at a lower pitch than here with a bit less breathlessness....I was 16 then and full of energy. Now my get up and go has got up and gone.........
As with so many of the "live" performances of the 50's and 60's only the video portion was actually live. The original recording was overdubbed so what one got to hear was the released recorded version. Never the less still a wonderful treat to be able to hear Lonnie.
