One of the first albums I got when I was a kid in the 70s was Deep Purple in Rock and Blue Oyster Cult On your Feet or on Your Knees. What great albums.

We made Mustang P-51's by the tens of thousands and they made ME 262's by the tens. It's didn't just have jet engines, it had other advances like swept wings. The air museum in Oskosh Wisconsin has a ME 262 engine.

"Hitler's on the phone from Berlin" How often do you hear the name Hitler in a song nowadays?

God this sounded cool when I was 14. "Goring's on the phone from Frieburg, says Willie's done quite a job." How cool is that when your name is Willlie?? Bombers at 12 o'clock high!

No other band could have ever made the lyric "Blasts from clustered R4M quartets in my snout" sound musical...

rock music with my favorite plane on the cover? Goddamnit, I feel shamed for finding out only now.

What other band could conceive of a song about a German WW2 jet fighter. There's even a nod to the plane's creator...Willy. (Wilhelm Messerschmidt).

I met a B17 gunner on a plane, he said they were all shitting bricks whenever they saw one of these. The only way to shoot them down was to loiter near the airstrips and catch them on takeoff and landing. The Germans hollowed out an entire mountain where they could build the things, just to keep the factory safe.

It is truly amazing that this was only good music back in the 70's...it's far beyond anything being made today......I guess LSD really did matter.

Junkers Jumo 004...the refrain near the end of the song is the name of the engine used in the ME-262 turbojet.
