I'd never heard of Al Bowlly until four years ago--I was 60 at the time. I became an instant fan and haven't looked back since. What a treat it was to discover this great performer. It's as if life had been holding on to this special treat for me until I was really ready to appreciate it.
At age 80, I come here now once a yr. to hear Al. He is still one of my faves and I sing this song to my wife but I wish I could be like Al!!! Crooner superb.
Music play
something dreamy for dancing
while we're here romancing
It's love's holiday
And Love will be our guide
Close your Eyes
When you open them dear
I'll be right hear by your side
So
Close your eyes
rest your head on my shoulder and sleep
Close your eyes
And I will close mine
Close your eyes
Let's pretend that we're both counting sheep
Close your eyes
This is divine
Music play
something dreamy for dancing
while were here romancing
It's love's holiday
And Love will be our guide
Close your Eyes
When you open them dear
I'll be near by your side
So won't you close your eyes
This old strange poignant song gives me comfort. As my recently paralyzed husband lay across the room from me, I listen to this odd lullaby every night imagining his arms around me again and I am lulled to sleep.
I love how rich the orchestration is....just pops out at you...and what can you say about Bowlly that hasn't been said ? He is truly the best of the crooners
I Really prefer Al Bowlly's version to the one of Frank Sinatra. It's way more comforting and calming. And I have the unagreeable feeling that Sinatra is boasting of singing so well (no one can deny he sang divinely well). I get the feeling that All Bowlly sang without bragging about it. It's just beautiful and soft whereas Sinatra's version is more vivid, jumpy... It's nice but it's not as relaxing and soothing. With a song called "close your eyes" I think you're missing a point if you don't make it calm
I'd never heard of Al Bowlly until I created a Pandora station for the 20's and 30's. What a voice! Ray Noble's orchestra is a wonderful accompaniment for his singing.
Close your eyes, rest your head on my shoulder and sleep, close your eyes, and I will close mine, close your eyes, lets pretend that we're both counting sheep, close your eyes, oh this is divine, music play, something dreamy for dancing while we're here romancing, it's loves holiday and love will be our guide, close your eyes, when you open them dear I'll be near by your side so won't you close your eyes
