This was the first single I ever bought out of my own precious (usually reserved for sweets) pocket money, aged 9. They played it on one of the Saturday morning kids programmes and I had to go out and buy it so I could listen again. Those were the days, when kids programmes for 9 year olds would have bands like XTC playing these kind of tunes. If Sgt Rock were released next week, it would still stand out from the dross and sound fresh and, in fact, RRRROCK! Good work Michael. The perfect video for it.

Just love how "Optimism's Flame" blends into "Sgt Rock" with that thunderous drum intro. Floored me in 1980, still does 35 yrs later. Terry Chamber's drumming here really nails this straight-ahead rock classic.
