Why does Horace Silver’s playing always make me think of Popeye the Sailorman?

Dave Schildkraut...why did this guy not get famous behind this solo?

This is kind of the perfect composition. I feel free, young , pretty and smart right now. Magic.

Miles take on the "How High The Moon" changes ingenious title "Solar" . Space , the Moon, Stratosphere . All players in fine form . Nice Quartet.

If you came from our recent post, here's some more information about the recording. Miles Davis starts the recording and begins his solo around 0:36. Notice Miles Davis' "mysterious" sound at 1:26 that is assisted by Silver's piano accompaniment. Schildkraut begins his alto saxophone solo around 1:46. He plays a good, Parker-like phrase at 2:14 and then gets the mysterious sound with Silver around 2:18 - 2:23. He gets to the best of his solo starting around 2:23 and you can hear the walkin' bass (notice the pun) from 2:36 to about 2:40. Schildkraut's solo ends at 2:53 and then Horace Silver takes a solo. Miles Davis comes back at 3:27 and plays from that point until the end of the recording.
