There's so much depth, character and richness in Irish folk music. It really is the original. A beautiful song this one.

The internet is a wondrous thing in many ways. Back in the early '70s Hallmark Hall of Fame had a program on TV that was set in Ireland. I only saw it once, but this song was in it. I could remember the melody and only the lyrics "fair colleen...the County Down". That's it. Couldn't remember what the Hall of Fame story was about anymore, but the song was stuck in my head for the last 45 years. Tonight, for whatever reason, I decided to do yet another search to try and pin down that song. And I found it :-). Now it is an "ear worm" and I probably won't be able to get it out of my head for the next two weeks. But that's okay. I have loved this song for almost a half century - when I didn't even know what song it was!

I'm 19 and i'm from Vietnam. It's so weird that music from that side of the world, played by people from that side of the century would fascinate this boy of this edge of the world in the faraway corner of this world. Much admirable!

I think it makes more sense changing the lyrics to say "cailín" instead of "Colleen." The song says her name is Rosie, so her name isn't Colleen. Cailín is pronounced the exact same though, and it's gaelic for "girl," which makes much more sense in the context

The only negative thing i have to say is the total misspelling of the few Irish words bóithrín (small road) and cailín (girl)
