One of the most underrated songs ever...why just 296,021 views?...I think they deserve at least a million.

Lanegan's vocal on this is just perfect. Subtlety, warmth, power, rawness - it's got everything all at once.

Totally agree man! Layne and Mark are vocal gods! You may have heard of them, but you should check out the band Mad Season, which has Layne on most songs, but Mark is in a couple such as their song Long Gone Day.

The hour is ending, can't you see There is no way now, to get free In the shadow of the season Without a reason, to carry on Without a reason, without a reason And from the north woods Down to the valley In a world of hurting, I'm moving on And from the lighthouse Out on the ocean Can't climb the mountain, so very tall Said Lord please give me what I need He said there's pain and misery Oh sweet oblivion feels alright The hour is drawing ever closer And rolling over, won't let me be In the shadow of the season To find a reason, to carry on Said Lord please give me what I need He said there's pain and misery Oh sweet oblivion She calls me onward to her side And feels her song deep inside And find a reason In the shadow of the season To find a reason to carry on In the shadow of the season To find a reason to carry on Find a reason to carry on To carry on To find a reason to carry on

Lanegan is one of my favorite vocalists of all time. If Morrison started his career in the 90s this is what he would sound like. Not taking anything away for Lanegan but there's defiantly similarities.

If Chris Cornell was vocally the master of high notes, Lannegan is the master for the low notes.

Hell yeah! Look at Van Conner tearing it up. This is the perfect start to this perfect album, their best, IMHO. They took their musical prowess and matched it with ambitious compositions, complex arrangements, psyche influences and flawless production. Sweet Oblivion is a monument of an album.

0:40 When a band hits the heights of a tight, wicked groove. That elevation.... wow
