I never hear this beautiful lullaby without thinking of my boys, all grown and on their own, still so dear and close to my heart.

I love how she only mentions his name in the title; she said that was intentional because she wanted the song to be universal for all mothers of sons. So sweet :)

Dream of Life came 1988 – bought it and loved it. `92 my first daughter was born, `94 my second one. I used to sing this to them as a lullaby and I think/hope they still love it. I never knew about the connection to Fred “Sonic” Smith, at the time. Just thought it was a lovely lullaby. Then my first son was born – or rather not. He died during labour; five minutes before delivery, we still heard his heartbeats. But, he never took his first breath. The lyrics took on a completely different meaning after that. I felt that it was about Gabriel, and we played it at his funeral. Along with “Perfect Day” (Lou Reed), but the reason for that is another story.

Seeing her on January 24th at the Fillmore Auditorium!!  Doubtful she'll play this, although when I saw her in '78 she did sing "You Light Up My Life."
