Mancini was an innovator and has never been copied. He was the first to discover the use of trombones and french horns in tight clusters. Also he was one of, if not THE first, to use four bass flutes in harmony. The bass flute is a very rare instrument and in Mancini's time, there were only 6 or 7 bass flute players in L.A. Now THAT'S innovative!
