Such an under appreciated song. I hope one day someone brings a new light to this amazing piece because it deserves to be shared. Dead on everyone(:

On the day when I was born, my daddy sat down and cried I had the mark just as plain as day, and could not be denied Some good dead lyrics right there

Every body knows. A little place, like Kokomo. That's where, we wanna go. To get away from it all. Go down to Kokomo.

On the day when I was born Daddy sat down and cried I had the mark just as plain as day; which could not be denied They say that Cain caught Abel rollin' loaded dice Ace of Spades behind his ear and him not thinkin' twice Halfstep, Mississippi uptown toodleloo Hello, baby, I'm gone, goodbye Half a cup of Rock and Rye. Farewell to you old Southern skies I'm on my way, on my way If all you got to live for is what you left behind Get yourself a powder charge and seal that silver mine Lost my boots in transit, baby, pile of smokin' leather I nailed a retread to my feet and prayed for better weather Halfstep, Mississippi uptown toodleloo Hello, baby, I'm gone, goodbye Half a cup of Rock and Rye. Farewell to you old Southern skies I'm on my way, on my way They say that when your ship comes in, the first man takes the sails Second takes the after deck, third the planks and rails What's the point of callin' shots; this cue ain't straight in line Cue ball's made of styrofoam and no one's got the time Halfstep, Mississippi uptown toodleloo Hello, baby, I'm gone, goodbye Half a cup of Rock and Rye. Farewell to you old Southern skies I'm on my way, on my way. Across the Rio Grand-eo, Across the lazy river

To me Vassar Clements hold's the song in a kind of capsule of sound, it's subtle at first then a weaving with Jerry's guitar starts this synergy that builds a flow we all know and love.. This is in my top 10 of GD works..

This was more than much appreciated when it came out, and as you can see, long after. I don't know when this rating stuff started, but I assure you we weren't doing that. (Sounds like something competative, and Blue Meanie-like. They do it over there, but we don't do it here.) The Grateful Dead were mightily appreciated, and always were. Take a look around you. After all, you ARE the eyes of the world.

I agree, Sean. This is an under appreciated song from an under appreciated album. When I'm in a certain mood there's nothing for it but to listen to "Wake of the Flood." "I nailed a retread to my feet, and prayed for better weather."

Opening lines makes me think of Steinbeck's East of Eden for some reason
