This song is about the female mystic, Hildegard of Bingen! She was an abbess and wanted to have permission to start her own convent (she was later granted). She had visions from God--which Banhart refers to as "dreams."

'That’s it for me,' she says. 'That's how I'm going to get my message across.' So she escapes the cloister…and becomes a VJ."
So? In strange sense it's tying the far past with the futuristic present in a vision of one thing.
