I’m just sittin' in a vacant lot with a bird sittin' on my head
I’m just sittin' in a vacant lot with a bird sittin' on my head
Wicked, wicked, cruel, cruel world
What have you done to me?
I belong in someone’s arms
Wicked, wicked, cruel, cruel world
This is no kind of life
I should have a house and bed
We’re just sittin' in a vacant lot and we haven’t got a dime
The bird and me, lonely as can be, we’re together all the time
Wicked, wicked, cruel, cruel world
What have you done to me?
I belong in someone’s arms
Wicked, wicked, cruel, cruel world
What I say is no lie
We’ve been sittin' here so long
I’m just sittin' in a vacant lot
(both) The things we want we haven’t got need a tree and house and bed
(both) Wicked, wicked, cruel, cruel world
What have you done to me?
Thanks for a really old memory. Impossible to find is putting it mildly. This was David's follow-up to 1958's "Witch Doctor", before he struck gold with the Chipmunks.
When I was 11 in 1958, my cousin had this 45 and I remember thinking it was kind of cool. But it wasn't a big hit like" Witch Doctor." I hadn't heard "Bird on My Head" in over 50 years! What memories it brought back! Thanks for putting it on You Tube!
When I was a kid, my dad brought home a bunch of 45's from an auction. This song was on one of them. I've liked it ever since then (mid-1960's). My dad sang along with it the first time we played it.
Found it. Apparently the user who owns the record "The Music of David Seville" is Japanese, though... search for "David Seville" and look for the video that follows his name with a "3" in a circle. "Hey There, Moon" is the fourth selection.
Holy geeze... last time I listened to this classic was at least a few years ago. The memories are now comin' back...!
Excellent post, compared to the music of today, this will forever stand out as a legendary piece. Thank you, Dave Seville, for the memories that are forever etched in my mind.
May you rest in peace.
Hey Kardashian Clan, take notes, this is an Armenian with real talent and isn't afraid to kick ass with it.
(No offense to any Armenians out there, btw. I don't hold any prejudices against them or anybody else.)
I found Bid on My Head back in 58 or 59 and recorded to a reel to reel tape. We had it on that reel until 1968 when a house fire burned up our stereo setup and many irreplaceable albums and reels f mic going back to the late 40's. I recently came onto a tape deck just like we had and rerecorded music to MP3's and paid top dollar for some I really wanted. Like I paid $11 for a copy of Gone by Ferlin Husky just to hear Missing Persons on the flip side. Doesn't sound like much now. I used to go into record stores and fish through the bins until I had looked at every single record there (and often rearranged alphabetically within genres). I now have over 2500 45's that I bought or was given plus another wad that only exists on mp3's . I rarely get to play the actual 45's any more.because needles are hard to find. I've been collecting them fr over 60 years.
