This song is so well written that all of these people can think he's saying different words and it's still equally as deep and emotional for all of them.

I love the chorus. What a beautiful song. I will always love her, even if she thinks I'm the most shitiest person alive. "Take me, take me back to your bed I love you so much that it hurts my head I don't mind you under my skin I'll let the bad parts in, the bad parts in"

When I saw them live with The Front Bottoms and Modern Baseball, they performed this album in its entirety. For the last lyric, Jesse changed it to "A storm is coming, and the storm is me."

[Does everybody really need to know everyone?] [Do you really think you're really a part of it?] [And is your army really one of some thousands?] [And will you declare war on the loony bin?] [When I arrive will God be waiting and pacing around his throne?] [Will he feel a little Old Testament?] [And will he celebrate with fire and brimstone] [Yeah, I admit, I am afraid of the reckoning] [Goodbye my love] [Wait right here, and they will come and pick you up] [I've been on pause, but I'm shaking off the rust] [I've lost my charge, I've been degaussed] [I'm on my own, I've been degaussed] [I'm on my own, I've been degaussed] [I'm on my own, I've been degaussed] [I'm on my own, I've been degaussed]

I think Jesse Lacey must have witnessed a murder when he was a kid or something. That's the only thing that explains his lyrics

This song brings back all of those insanely heavy feelings that came with being a teenager in the 00's. One of my favorite songs of all time.

i think its "you burn bright, but you run out. I fell asleep in the alkaline" cuz alkalinity is associated with degaussing

I saw these guys just last night, and this was one of the songs in their set. I screamed, I shook, I sweated, I sang at the top of my lungs and it was AMAZING.  If you ever get a chance to hear them live, GO. Forget your excuses, just do it.

I discovered Brand New back in 2009 when my girlfriend at the time cheated on me. I put on a random playlist while waiting for her to come home so we could talk about it. When she got there, we had a really emotional talk, this and lots of other fitting songs were playing in the background. I ended up leaving her. It gives me the chills every time I hear it. Such a powerful song.

I don’t exactly know what he’s talking about but for some reason I agree with every word

A “degaussing tool” is used to de-magnetize a tape-head in order to avoid problems of background noise in analog recording devices. According to Jesse Lacey during an interview with FNX Radio Boston, the use of the word in the song is “a metaphor for taking the charge off something.”
