It seems only appropriate that Jolson's last recordings were Steven Foster songs, songs sung by minstrels since before the civil war and here sung by the last minstrel.

Al Jolson went to entertain US troops in the field in Korea. He did 42 such performances in 16 days. All on his own dime. He died shortly afterward from exhaustion. A fine American.

Jolson probably died (heart-attack) because he insisted on entertaining the troops in Korea. A pure performer; magical. I'd have loved to have seen him on Broadway.

Brilliant. This was made not long before he died. His voice was still superb.
