All the people bitching about anti-god bullcrap... The knee-jerk reactions of the ignorant, and fearful. The song is about watching someone you love spiral downward, refusing help, clinging to something completely ridiculous that isn't helping in the slightest. It doesn't matter what religion it pertains to, only the mentality of those who have been brainwashed into believing that the only thing that can help them is fucking magic.
I don't know the exact circumstances of Maynard's mother so consider this example only somewhat related. Christians, imagine for just a minute that the person you love most in the world found out they had cancer that was treatable. They refused to go to the hospital, instead opting for just praying the sickness away. Would you consider this a positive solution to the problem? Would you just say "well I guess we shouldn't do anything cause...well...Jesus"? Is this the type of world you would want? If so you are a fucking ignorant fool, and should be held accountable when the person dies painfully.
