timeless masterpiece, 40 years old ----and still giving me the same pleasure that it did in my youth--money can never be traded for this musical genius----thanks joe (r.i.p) and wayne.
This WR album always intrigues me. It stands alone because of the innovative rhythm section and especially the drumming, which is unlike anything else they ever did.
Classic Weather Report! Real spaced out yet funky as a pot of neck bones. One of my favorite songs of all time. You just can't beat the flourish provided by Wayne's horn during the last transition. Just killer!
manolete is the name of a famous bullfighter gored to death by a raging bull.beautiful piece.sad and haunting piece.sounds like a piece of music that may represents a protest of the senseless killing of bull. Regardless this music is great and it is universal classic music.
in my humble opinion... the best song ever written.... cant find it on the internet anywhere... thank god I own it on vinyl .. and you posted it ..big upz man
thanks for the post... saw these guys play this live in HIl Auditorium in Ann Arbor in 1972... changed he meaning of music for me for the rest of my life....
improvisational impressionism, manolete means some kind of bull fight thing, you can hear and see it. wayne shorter why use a sheet of sound or a billion notes when one will do, and do so much
This was their best, this album is Weather Report at the height of their inventive, creative, musical powers. Every track is another mood, another narrative, another groove...it's astounding all the music on this one album! No it was not the Jaco show and all that third world disco, it was this album Sweetnighter! This is the jewel of that great band's tenure.
