As they are in such a happy marriage, it's strange they were able to write such a sad and accurate breakup song - also one that is so generous and hopeful. It describes my own recent experience so well: the overarching sadness, the strangeness of being alone after a long relationship, the final clear-eyed truth when you realize it wasn't just your fault - all of this is so honest. And yet there's the bit which cuts the most, in spite of the hopefulness: "I don't need somewhere to hide/I've got this whole world inside/I was accustomed to showing you..." And that's the hardest part of breaking up: losing someone to whom you could show everything in your life without hesitation. A very wise and sad breakup song, almost on par with Paul Simon's I Do It For Your Love. Thanks.
