I'm 161 years old; and this song brings back memories of being 107 years old.

My eldest sister dated Gene Clark. She loved him but he was gone too much. She married a poet instead. Still goes over to the Tipton, MO cemetery to lay some flowers on his grave whenever she's back this way.

This heralded the beginning of psychedelic music. Beautiful - transcendent - mysterious - just Gene Clark was.

One of the high watermarks of 60's rock music. A piece of art.

Eight miles high and when you touch down You'll find that it's stranger than known Signs in the street that say where you're going Are somewhere just being their own Nowhere is there warmth to be found Among those afraid of losing their ground Rain gray town known for its sound In places small faces unbound Round the squares huddled in storms Some laughing some just shapeless forms Sidewalk scenes and black limousines Some living, some standing alon

"Africa/Brass" is the main inspiration; "India" only partially, if at all. Many comments here keep "informing" us of Coltrane's influence on "Eight Miles High". I just wonder how many have ACTUALLY LISTENED to the cited Coltrane numbers, because the influence of "Africa/Brass" is so very much more obvious. What IS staggering is that five inexperienced, largely folk (not rock or jazz) musicians could achieve something as remarkable, almost timeless, as "Eight Miles High".....

A wonderful example of the artistic explosion we experienced in the '60s. Where do you think "cool" came from? Haha. Peace and love.

George Harrison may have been the first guitar player to use the 12 string electric guitar, but it was Roger McGuinn who took it Eight Miles High. Lol
